From the summer of 2014, we have been hearing the rumours about the testing a 5G network. But eventually, Qualcomm announced their collaboration with over a dozen of OEMs to deliver 5G ready modems by 2019, one of them is Oppo who recently has reached the experimental 5G speeds on an upgraded retail unit of their flagship Oppo R15 phone
The tech relies on the 3GPP release of 15NSA standard with a bandwidth of 10MHz of 4G LTE Band 5 and the bandwidth of 20MHz of 5G NR n78 Band. Qualcomm announced this modem as X50 platform in the February of 2018.
The President of Oppo Research Institute, Liu Chang said that this test provides the desired foundation for the commercial release and acceptance of 5G-ready devices which would arrive in 2019. He also stated that their next flagship which would be named as Oppo R17 would be among the early adopter in the class of 5G smartphones.
